The Beluch rugs have a wide variety of geometric motifs, such as octagons, cones, eight-sided stars and different types of diamonds. Other patterns, such as the Herati pattern and Uzbek-inspired motifs, are found in the newer Beluch rugs.
They are tied along the border between Iran and Pakistan and in Afghanistan. Persian Beluch rugs are very detailed and very finely knotted. The most important and original Beluch carpets are made in the Khorassan province of Iran. The carpets are also called Mashad Beluch and are usually more finely knotted and of better quality than those from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Beluchi are a large nomadic tribe living in southeastern Iran. They speak a Persian dialect called Beluch and are Sunni Muslims.
