There is greater variation in the Hamadan patterns compared to many other districts' patterns. Most rugs are made in homes and the wool is somewhat coarse with a symmetrical knot. Many of the remote villages have given names to special motifs that they have created themselves, and some motifs have been named without having any definite place of origin. The most important are Hosseinabad, Jozan, Malayer, Save, Shahsavand, Ingelas and Nanadje.
Hamadan province is located in northwestern Iran and the district is well known for its food production. It is believed that it was at the beginning of the 17th century that the first carpets were manufactured in Hamadan. Today, the province has a very large production of hand-knotted carpets, this is due, among other things, to the durable wool used in the production.
