Saruk carpets come from the city of Arak as well as the village of Saruk and nearby localities. The early success of Saruk was largely due to the American market. From the 1910s through the 1950s, the "American Saruk", also called the "Painted Saruk", was produced. The floral patterns and designs of the Saruk rugs attracted American traders. But to get the carpets perfect, the Americans started bleaching and dyeing imported carpets to get the color they wanted. Saruk rugs are still produced by the same early methods always used, except for the bleaching process introduced by the Americans. Known for their exceptional quality and ability to last through decades, Saruk rugs have become a top seller among Persian rugs. They are tied from high-quality cotton and with a Persian knot.
Characteristic of Saruk rugs is the tomato red color mixed with purple and blue floral patterns. The finest Saruk rugs come from the small town of Ghias.
