Ziglar (Zeiglar) is the name of a design rather than a province or tribe. Ziglar carpets are also known as Chobi or Peshawar carpets. A German company, in Manchester, started the production of the original Ziglar carpets as early as 1883. Using leading designers and carpet weavers from Iran and Europe, they managed to create a design that was different from the typical Persian carpets.
Ziglar rugs were designed with the Western market in mind and with the idea of being able to fit a rug perfectly into every home. Today, Ziglar rugs are possibly the most popular and sought-after rugs primarily in Western homes due to the classy tones and soft design. The design is a softer version of the typical Sultanabad design and natural dyes were used when dyeing the rugs. At the same time, you can see very stylish colors that, together with the design, make the carpets complement modern interiors as well as old traditional ones.
The production of the traditional Ziglar rugs started in Arak province but the rugs are now made all over Iran and neighboring countries. Most of the newly designed Ziglar rugs are made in Afghanistan and Iabelled Chobi, which means wood in Persian and refers to their natural colors from plants. Even if Ziglar carpets come from the German company Zeiglar & Co, the carpets are not called Zeiglar & Co carpets, but only Ziglar.
